Lymphatic drainage massage

Lymphatic drainage massage is a specialised form of massage therapy that focuses on the lymphatic system, a network of vessels and nodes that help remove waste and toxins from the body.

The massage uses light, rhythmic strokes to encourage the movement of lymph fluid, which can become stagnant due to illness, injury, or medical treatments.

By stimulating lymph flow, it helps reduce swelling, improve circulation, and support the immune system.

Take a look at some examples of what lymphatic drainage massage can help with!

Lymphoedema

Lymphoedema is a long-term (chronic) condition that causes swelling in the body's tissues. It can affect any part of the body, but usually develops in the arms or legs.

It develops when the lymphatic system does not work properly.

It's important that lymphoedema is identified and treated as soon as possible. If it is not treated, it can get worse and in some instances, get infected.

Lymphatic drainage massage can assist in stimulating the lymphatic system and helping to clear the excess fluid and swelling. It is not a cure, but is great for keeping the swelling under control and managing your condition.

Post- surgery- Cosmetic and Orthopaedic

Swelling is a normal part of the bodies anti-inflammatory response to the trauma of having surgery, whether that is a total knee replacement, arthroscopy or liposuction. However, this swelling can sometimes cause more pain and tightness, and  actual prolong the recovery process. Having a lymphatic drainage massage can help speed up the healing process, reduce swelling and pain, improve scar healing and ensure the best results post-op.

Typically, lymphatic drainage massage can begin around one week after surgery, but this can vary depending on the type of surgery and individual healing progress. For scar treatment, it's generally recommended to wait until the scar has fully closed and shows no signs of infection, usually 6-8 weeks post-surgery.

Scar therapy can also be added for those who have had a c-section, as long as the wound as healed.
